Quite a while back, the famous all girl team of artists, CLAMP, released the first of a very popular manga series known as X (X/1999 in the U.S.). Later, in 1996, X was animated as a movie, before the manga series was even near finished.

"Go back to Tokyo Kamui. Your future is waiting for you."

Kamui has returned to Tokyo after many years of absence.
His appearence is noticed by the Dragons of Heaven (who want to keep the world the way it is), and the Dragons of Earth (who want the Earth reborn). Both know of Kamui's importance, and want him on their side.

The Dragons of Heaven and Earth are at battle against eachother. When one or more of each of them fight, the Dragon of Heaven creates a Kekkai (spiritual barrier), which turns the fighting area into an alternate dimension around where they are fighting. If the Dragon of Heaven wins, anything damaged in the battle returns to normal. But, if the Dragon of Earth wins, everything within the Kekkai is destroyed.

Kamui is found first by the some of the Dragons of Earth. When he refuses to go with them, they try to use force. During the attack, the Dragons of Heaven interfere and fight off the attackers. During this fight, Kamui's close friend Kotori is kidnapped by the Dragons of Earth's Dreamgazer, Kanoe.

Kamui later meets the Dragons of Heaven's Dreamgazer, Hinoto (Kanoe's older sister). She shows him a dream of what the Earth would be like if the Dragons of Earth win.

Knowing that it is too late to get Kamui on their side, the Dragons of Earth find Kamui's Twin Star, who also has the power of Kamui. Unfortunately, Kamui's Twin Star is none other than Kotori's brother, and Kamui's close friend, Fuuma.
I'd say more, but I dont want to spoil it for you. The movie is supposed to be released in the U.S. in early 2000 by Manga Entertainment.

Personally, I liked the X manga much better. It gave more time for the characters to develop. CLAMP also added a character for the movie that was not in the manga. Shogo Asagi. A Dragon of Earth who had control over water.

Overall, I loved this movie. I first saw it about a year ago, and I still enjoy watching it from time to time. It is one of my favorite movies, and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes anime.
