Name: BITTERSWEET FOOLS (70.00% in 4 votes)
Type: NVL
Platform: Windows
Company: Minori
Release date: 2000
Reviewed by: Yang Sei Fu

The first work of Minori, Koga Nozomu writes a superficial piece of modern drama in the setting of "Firenze" (Florence), Italia. The story is laced with references with the meaninglessness of life and the dreary existance of the repetitive day-to-day life, as well as references to classics as Shakespeare, Voltaire, and many other European classics.

The story is split between two main characters and chapters: The young, discreet looking silent sniper - Alan (psydonym), and the tall, young, handsome spy in "the association" - Palermo.

Through circumstances, the characters meet their destiny - including the girls Tea and Lenie. Living with them under the same roof, encountering a series of events through day-to-day life. Relationships slowly build despite the circumstances of Mafia life, and soon they realize the imporatance of each other in each others' life, each in their own ways.

Filled with characters of all personalities, the game's episodic layout brings tears to the readers' eyes, and brings us to realization that even the most plain parts of life is precious.

Music (9/10) - Simple, but moving. Created by TWOFIVE.

Graphics (7.5/10) - Succinct. But if you want it blandly -- it's doujin quality. If you want it with an insulting twist -- it sucks (in contrast to some of the best graphics out there).

Story (10/10) - A brilliant literary masterpiece. Need I say more? Actually, yes. Brush up on European classics before playing (or else it'll be very difficult to understand).

Language (10/10) - Colourful usage of classics, extremely specialized language (involving Mafia, espionage and firearms etc.)
