"Piano" is the latest series from Fujishima Kousuke-sensei that came out the year before last year. There are 10 episodes in all. Nomura Miu has been playing the piano for a long time. She is a very quiet and timid girl. She may be spirited when she’s out with friends or having some time with her family, but she has to go through her struggles of perfecting her skills.
Fun - 6
I better say this first before I forget. "Piano" is the documentary of Kawasumi Ayako-san, if I should even be calling it that. Ayako-san is a very good piano player and she has been playing it ever since she was 3 years old if I remember correctly. She was so close of not being a voice actress. The reason why she went over to become an actress is because her last teacher gave her a hard time. Now you see Ayako-san giving life to various anime characters.
This is just your normal life anime series. It digs down deep inside the life of a normal teenage girl who struggles and struggles to maintain her piano skills. Although this is shown out nicely, you don't get a plot out of it and this will make people feel a bit let down. Plus, I just felt that the characters are there and nothing more. They don't stand out as I had hoped for.
Life - 6
I want to boost this up, but I don't think people would like watching a documentary often.
Story - 7
This series in general can depend on if you know the little bits of this series. I already gave an explanation on what I meant by this. If you don't get it, go back to the Fun section.
Audio - 10
The piano pieces are good. Majority of the songs are composed by Miu's seiy, Kawasumi Ayako-san. I know what you're thinking. "A seiyuu as a composer?" That's a first for me.
Art - 8
I know what you are thinking. "How can you give the art on a Fujishima-sensei series an 8?" That's simple. The designs are well, flat. Miu's hair style really looks weird for example. I mean, is that possible for a girl to have that kind of style?
That's it. I love those rainy scenes. The surroundings are great. It's the characters that need better designs.
Overall - 7
Over the months, "Piano" has been given mixed views. If you're the type of person who doesn't mind hearing piano pieces and not having little to no plot at all or whatever, this series is for you. Otherwise, don't even bother with it.
+
The surroundings, the piano pieces and the feeling of reality are nice.
-
The characters need some help and this is no doubt a love or hate anime.
