Name: Super Robot Wars F (85.00% in 8 votes)
Type: STG
Platform: PSX
Company: Banpresto
Release date: 1998

After waiting for almost a year for the psx version, Super robot wars F is finally out for the psx :) It was released on Dec. 10, 1998 :) It sure took Banpresto a long time to convert the game. For those people who have no idea what super robot wars is, refer to my 4th super robot wars scrambled review to find out a bit of info about it. The game takes place 3 years after 4th super robot wars scrambled and the cast of the game has been broadened by a lot. Actually there are two parts to the game, super robot wars F and super robot wars F final which is schduled to be released March 99. Super robot wars F is not as appealing as F final in the sense that all the powerful robots like nu gundam, F91 Gundam, ZZ gundam Gunbuster, Ideon won't appear till F final and all the robots featured in F sucked except maybe for evangelions. For people who is playing the game and waiting for F final to come out, remember to keep your save games so that you could convert the data over to F final when it comes out :)

The story sadly, is still the same comparing to the last installment, but additions has been made, like the angels in eva are now added as enemies. There are also mentions of villians and heroes from G Gundam and Gundam wing.

The cast of Robot wars F are as follows:

Gundam Wing Gundam ZZ Gundam Z Gundam F-91 Gundam 0080 war in the pocket Gundam 0083 stardust memory Char's counterattack Neon Genesis Evangelion Mazinger Z Combattler V Super Beast team Dancougar Getta robot G gundam and so on,

Here are the ratings I give to this game:

graphics: 7/10

Not a huge improvement in terms of graphics, most of the robots are in fact taken from the previous installment. I thought they would at least redraw the robots, but no, so it looks kinda weird cause the new additions looked so much better than the old ones. So far I haven't seen any use of computer graphics creation of FMVs yet and all that I saw was crappy scenes from the anime show of those robots

Sound: 6/10

No bounses here either, the sound are just midi songs of the opening of the series, so nothing speical about them. I thought they would at least put vocals in their karaoke mode, but guess they never will. The voices of the characters are nicely done though.

Story: 7/10

The story is nothing to boast about, same old story with a little addition, so nothing too complicated and interesting.

Gameplay: 8/10

The gameplay is what attracted me to this game in the first place. The gameplay although easier than the previous installment is still fun. Maybe the F final would be a lot harder. You could move all the units around and I espeically like using robots from a certain series against enemy robots from another series :) The only thing I would complain in the gameplay is the difficulty while fighting angels, they are so damn hard to hit because of their at fields. Most gundam weapons will do no damage to angels. That brings around another point that evas are too good in the game, no enemy, even the bosses are able to hurt evas, so playing the game with evas are just too easy.

Overall: 7/10

Overall this is a good game if you like strategy game and robots, but the graphics and sound of the game is nothing too amazing like square productions, but then again, the series is already popular enough, why would they need to spend a lot of money on it :) I would recommend this game for mecha fans and for people who wants to start the robot wars series :)

The game Super Robot Wars F is created by Winky soft and banpresto and all rights are reserved to these companies.
